Prerequisite: Be able to safely handle, load, accurately fire, and unload pistol.
This is not meant for new shooters wanting to learn to shoot – please consider Pistol Fundamentals.
Upon successful completion you will be able to:
- Demonstrate proper safety, handling, draws from holster, shooting skills with speed and accuracy, and more
- Take away key tips regarding firearms and concealed carry gear
- Understand relevant NV laws, liabilities, and eligibility
- Learn situational awareness, de-escalation strategies, and responsible concealed carry practices
- Be eligible to apply for a 5 year CCW permit
- Remain equipped and encouraged to continue consistent training and uphold high standards
What to bring (for all CCW classes):
- A modern semi-automatic handgun (revolvers, micro / pocket pistols, or Sig-Sauer P320’s not allowed). You do not need to qualify with what you plan to carry (but it is recommended).
- Ammo x200 (manufactured store-bought only).
- Smart phone/tablet (used to download PDFs via QR code).
- A good holster. Fits and retains gun, covers trigger area, and stays secured to belt. (No leather, nylon, or serpa holsters)
- Sturdy belt
- 2 magazines minimum
- Eye and ear protection (electronic recommended)
- Sturdy toe-covered footwear
- Water, snacks, and a bagged lunch
- Weather appropriate clothing. No low neckline shirts.

INFO + FAQs
- Up to 6 people per class (minimum of 3, unless private group)
- Location varies (shop for your desired class above!)
- Personal instructor (no drill instructors)
- Safe environment (though the range and instructor provides safety, much of the responsibility falls upon you!)
- The instructor is highly trained, has extensive experience and meets all the requirements of the Nevada Sheriff’s and Chief’s Association (NvSCA).
- Note: You may use any NvSCA approved instructor from another Nevada county to apply for CCW – unless you are an out of state CCW applicant.
- After taking this course, all you have to do is take the Qualification Certificate and apply for your CCW in the county in which you reside in (see “Resources” and “CCW Next Steps” tab).
- Plan ahead! The sooner you qualify and apply the better, since the processing at the Sheriff’s takes up to 120 days.
Requirements:
- Renewal applications MUST be submitted between 120 days prior to current expiration date through 120 days after current expiration date.
- “If you fail to renew your permit within 120 days of the expiration of the permit, you will have to re-apply as a new applicant” and you will need to take the full 8-hour CCW class.
- Must complete the shooting qualification (written examination not required)
- Complete the 4 hour course portion

Expectations:
- Students will experience all range training as prescribed for initial permits. Expect one hour of classroom experience.
- We’re hopeful that your last training was not your last CCW class.
- This should be more than a repeat class for you. You will learn something beyond what you have already learned.
We do not recommend revolvers since they do not serve the permit holder (and therefore: the public) as efficiently as modern semi-automatic pistols do.
We recommend that each serious firearm owner increases their capability on all fronts when it comes to “shoot-ability” – they should have:
- 10+ round capacity
- The option to add beneficial accessories (improved sights / optics, weapon mounted lights, etc.)
- Manageable and predictable recoil
- Manageable and predictable trigger mechanics
- Easy and quick reloading
There is a reason the modern police force and military no longer use revolvers.
Today, many civilians choose a semi-automatic pistol as their first firearm and primary CCW option.
We do not recommend micro or pocket pistols since they do not serve the permit holder (and therefore: the public) as efficiently as modern semi-automatic pistols do.
We recommend that each serious firearm owner increases their capability on all fronts when it comes to “shoot-ability” – they should have:
- 10+ round capacity
- The option to add beneficial accessories (improved sights / optics, weapon mounted lights, etc.)
- Manageable and predictable recoil
- A well-fitting firearm for the hands
- Easy and quick reloading
Today, many civilians choose sub-compact, compact, or full-size semi-automatic pistols as their first firearm and primary CCW option.
The Sig-Sauer P320 is known to be repeatably unreliable due to discharging without the press of the trigger – even if it’s in a holster. Risks will not be taken.

What do you do after you obtain the Qualification Certificate from us (after successfully completing the class)?
Submit your application to the Sheriff Department in the county you reside in. Review the CCW page on their website (Washoe’s, Carson City’s).
Your Qualification Certificate, which is used to apply for your CCW, is good for 1 from date of issue.
Current expense is about $100. This covers fingerprints, photograph, processing application, and background checks. This will cover over the next 5 years.
Processing takes up to 90 – 120 days. Unfortunately, you cannot carry concealed until you have your permit in your hand. Permit will be mailed to you (this is how you know you’ve been approved).
